I normally don't write hymns, let along three in a week, but here you are - my final offering this week.
(to the tune: In the Bleak Midwinter)
1. Gathering in darkness, longing for light,
Advent calls the Church to
Begin another year.
Praying, hoping, waiting,
Making room again,
For the gift of heaven to appear.
2. Candles for the prophets, and the forerunner,
Fearlessly they spoke out,
Witnessed to the truth.
And for a young woman,
Risking all she knew,
Bringing the world precious hope to birth.
3. Each prepares a welcome for the holy child,
Some with lavish parties;
Some in shop doorways.
Where kindness, peace and love
Opens hearts and hands,
Christ will make a home and there he’ll stay.
4. God of hope and justice,
Hear us as we pray:
Still our busy lives and
Quieten our minds.
May this Advent journey
Heal our tired souls,
Fit us to receive him – Love Divine.
